An Archive of direct accounts from Palestinians for people in the West
The purpose of this archive is to preserve the stories of the people of Palestine who have endured years of bombardment, genocide, famine, and various other atrocities and horrors. These are all people whom I have personally spoken to, interviewed, and had the privilege of knowing as human beings. I have verified the details that have been communicated to me and worked alongside them to make this archive as representative, fair, and respectful as possible.
There are many people whose stories I will never have the opportunity to hear, including those who died before I could ever speak with them. This archive is my attempt to preserve the voices of those I have been fortunate enough to meet, while also remembering those whose stories can no longer be told firsthand. Above all, I want to show the humanity of the people who have endured this tragedy and ensure that they are seen as human beings rather than statistics, headlines, or pawns in a political struggle. Their lives are more than the circumstances they were born into, and their stories deserve to be remembered as such.
For those of us in the United States, we rarely hear perspectives from people within Palestine unless we seek them out, but in the US it is greatly important that we listen to these voices because it is the US who is partially responsible for much of the suffering, as the US has funded, supplied, and enabled Israel, and because of that, we are perhaps one of the only countries in the world that has the power to put an end to it, b
I worry that the country's actions in Palestine and the Middle East as a whole could one day be ignored, twisted into something more favorable, or portrayed as less catastrophic than they truly were. The United States wields great power on the world stage, and I believe it is important for Americans to understand how that power is being used and the consequences it has for people beyond our borders. The world is much bigger than the United States and much older than the country itself. It can be easy to lose sight of that when so much of our attention is focused inward, but there is a whole world beyond American life and culture.
These stories are not intended to represent every Palestinian or provide a single account of what it means to live through this tragedy. Their experiences are their own, and I do not claim that they speak for anyone but themselves. They are the stories of individual people whom I have had the privilege of meeting and getting to know. Some of them have experienced things that I can scarcely comprehend. I hope that by preserving their words and allowing them to speak for themselves, this archive can serve as a record of the people who have lived through these terrible atrocities and ensure that their lives are remembered as more than the circumstances they were forced to endure.
